IT WAS exhausting to combine classes with work over the weekend and still have time to spend together, but Fran didn’t mind. After all, Jay also worked in the evenings. To Fran’s surprise, the landscaping guy pretty much left them to their own devices after he’d dropped them off at the garden they’d have to work at and showed them around. Most of their work was at lush, oversized estates with huge gardens, and more often than not, it took them all day. Neither of them minded. They had fun getting dirty and as usual Jay talked incessantly, which made the time pass quickly. They brought their own lunch and sometimes the lady of the house gave them drinks, but if not, they often drank from the garden hose.

Fran found he liked the work, and not just because Jay was around all the time. They had a certain freedom, and he enjoyed the pleasant ache in his muscles after a long day’s work. He also liked that Jay took every opportunity to steal little touches and the occasional kiss from him. Fran sometimes felt a little guilty that they hadn’t shared more than a chaste kiss and the occasional hug, but then they hadn’t really had much opportunity. Fran’s roommate was cramming for his exams and therefore always there, and Jay had two roommates, of which at least one was always around too. The few times they’d kissed were usually at the movie theater or in Jay’s car, but Fran’s fear of getting caught made those encounters short and hasty.

All that changed one blustery early December Saturday, in the garden shed of one of the estates where they’d been sent to rake leaves and mow the lawn one last time before winter. It had been raining lightly all day, but suddenly the rain was coming down in sheets and the wind had picked up, and they saw no other solution than to hide in the shed. It was a neat shed, with all the equipment tidy and well-maintained. To one side was a huge pile of garden furniture pillows and as soon as they had caught their breath, Fran saw Jay eye the soft-looking pile.

“You know,” Jay drawled, “we’re all alone in here. Our boss isn’t coming back until late this afternoon, the lady of the house is out to lunch, and you’re wet to the bone. Maybe you should take your clothes off.”

Fran opened his mouth and closed it again when he realized he didn’t know how to respond. Jay was looking at him with lust in his eyes, and Fran was getting pretty turned on by what Jay was suggesting. The trouble was that the rain pounding down on the tin roof of the garden shed was making it hard for him to think.
